What’s Your Skin Type?

What’s Your Skin Type?

Do you know your skin type? Are you oily? Dry? Combination? What is a skin type and how do you figure out yours?

I’ll tell you! But first things first! Welcome to Yutori Vitality’s very first skincare blog. We are so excited to be able to create a space like this where we can uplift and educate our community. Our main goal is to bring awareness on proper skincare. With our blog, we strive to help teach people about their skin types and address any concerns that they may have, so that they are able to choose the correct products and have the skin that they dream of.

Now, let’s get to it! What is a skin type? A skin type is usually genetic and refers to the activity of the sebaceous glands; how much oil they produce or lack. The most common mistake people make when trying to figure out their skin type is trying to decide it off of their skin’s condition. A skin condition is the current state of your skin, which usually involve things like hydration, sensitivity, aging or pigmentation. There are outside factors that contribute to these conditions such as: lifestyle habits, environmental conditions and even hormonal changes. A skin type can be managed, not cured because it is genetic. However, a skin condition can potentially be cured, if you address the contributing outside factors.

With that being said, there are four different skin types: dry, oily, combination and normal. Each skin type has a unique set of characteristics to help classify them. Let’s dive in to them!

Up first we have DRY SKIN TYPE. Dry skin type has limited oil production. The pores on your face will appear small and you will have flaky areas. It may feel uncomfortable and tight with increased sensitivity. When you touch the skin, it’ll be thin rough and uneven.

Second, we have OILY SKIN TYPE. Oily skin type will have a widespread oil production. The pores will appear large and the skin will have an overall oily appearance. This skin type is usually more prone to breakouts. You will see things like blackheads and acne. When you feel the skin, it’ll be thick and have an orange peel texture.

Third, we have COMBINATION SKIN TYPE. A combination skin type  will have an uneven oil production. The pores will appear medium/large throughout the T-Zone (forehead, chin, nose) and it will be shiny in this area. There will be areas of roughness on the cheeks and outer face, the skin there will be thick but thin around the eyes and forehead.

Lastly, we have NORMAL SKIN TYPE. Normal skin type has a balanced oil production. The pores on your face may appear small and medium in your T-Zone area (forehead, chin, nose). There will be a healthy glow and color, no blackheads or blemishes. When you touch the skin, it’ll be thick with good elasticity and have a smooth texture.

Let’s analyze your skin now . . . Yep. Mhmmm. Mhmmm. Ok. Got it? Did you figure out your skin type? Pretty cool right! But there still leaves the big question, why is knowing what your skin type is so important? Knowing your skin type can help determine which skincare products can be and should be used in order to aid in the effectiveness in certain skin care treatments. You’ll be able to choose the right skincare products and create a routine that works for you! Using the wrong products can make your skin worse and/or cause new conditions.

So forget that Instagram influencer that’s recommending those $30 Amazon products. Their skin, is not YOUR skin. What works for someone else may not work for you. What should you do for your skin type then? Stick around for our next blog! We explore many different and go over their ingredients and benefits for each skin type!
